Friesians
of America (FOA) was developed to serve the growing demands of enthusiasts
of the Friesian Horse and Friesian partbred in North America. A dedicated
and diverse group of individuals came together to create an organization
to serve these unique horses. The future growth and successful stewardship
of the breed requires a commitment to positioning the Friesian Horse as
a reliable and sound show horse, pleasure horse, and companion animal.
Recognizing and honoring quality, rewarding athletic achievement, and
studying the health of the breed, are a means to achieving this end.

After
observing all of the challenges facing the Friesian Horse in North America,
some core issues have emerged, and with the formation of Friesians
of America, will be addressed. First and foremost, breeders and owners
deserve a local registry to service their needs. They also need direct
access to their registry. FOA is truly organized to incorporate membership
input, and to distribute decision-making so that every member's interests
are considered, while the benefit of the Friesian Horse remains the primary
concern.
Another emerging need
in North America is a standardized, recognized approach to guiding and
honoring the performance of Friesian Horses. FOA will establish judging
guidelines, define a point system, and offer year end awards for eligible
Friesians and Friesian partbreds.
And finally, FOA will
take a leadership role in studying the health of the Friesian Horse and
all of it's results will be available for public scrutiny. The purity
of any breed only has value if it is consistently good. Through data collection
and dissemination to institutions qualified to analyze, evaluate and advise
for the breed's future, we will enhance traits that improve the health,
soundness, and longevity of the Friesian Horse. FOA has committed itself
to this effort.
